3. Pay as you go

Choose a data plan within your Giffgaff account. You will be charged based on your data usage, and you can top up after your balance runs out. The minimum top-up is £10 (approximately HK$100). Log in to the official website and go to "my payments" to make a payment. As the cost is not high, with a minimum annual spend of HK$100, it is suitable for keeping a UK phone number or for users who send and receive texts infrequently.

This means you can use it outside the UK, but roaming charges will be more expensive if used in Hong Kong.

This giffgaff card includes £5 credit. Receiving SMS in Hong Kong is free, but making calls and using the internet will not be cheap. Calling out from Hong Kong costs £1 per minute, and roaming internet is 20p per MB. A reminder: if you want to activate the card, remember to download the giffgaff app in advance and connect to Wi-Fi to test it, to avoid excessive roaming charges.
